چکیده

In this paper, we performed an exploration on the design and evaluation of pen tail gesture, an interaction method that allows the use of pen tail movement to initiate interactions. Based on our interviews with some designers and researchers who regularly used pen-based tools, we conducted three experiments to establish baseline criteria to distinguish intentional pen tail gestures from incidental pen tail movements, and to understand the basic movement behaviors in pen tail gestures. We developed designs and recognition methods of pen gestures, and implemented three application prototypes based on them. Our research can inspire some new designs of pen-based tools and enrich the design repertoire of pen-based user interfaces. & 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Comparison of Plantar Dynamics During Four Sports Gestures in Rugby Players

Background. Four of the most relevant gestures in rugby (RU) are the pass, the tackle, the line out, and the scrum. RU is the third most common contact sport on the planet, and being a fast-paced collision game and carries a high risk of injury. Objectives. To describe and compare plantar dynamics during four sports gestures in rugby players through speed, strength, and balance. Methods. Twen...

pOM: Linking Pen Gestures to Computer-Aided Composition Processes

Illuminated manuscripts of medieval music contain rich decorations in addition to handwritten neumatic notation. Our project with composer Philippe Leroux investigates the use of such handwritten symbols during the composition of his piece Quid sit musicus. We introduce pOM, an interactive paper application and a library for the OpenMusic computer-aided composition environment which links pen g...

Fluid inking: augmenting the medium of free-form inking with gestures

We present Fluid Inking, a generally applicable approach to augmenting the fluid medium of free-form inking with gestural commands. Our approach is characterized by four design criteria, including: 1) pen-based hardware impartiality: all interactions can be performed with a button-free stylus, the minimal input hardware requirement for inking, and the least common denominator device for pen-bas...

quill: A Gesture Design Tool for Pen-based User Interfaces

Pen-based user interfaces are becoming more prevalent. Gestures are a powerful and convenient way to interact using a pen, but are difficult to design well. This paper describes the first intelligent gesture design tool, quill, which assists designers in creating and improving gestures for pen-based interfaces, both in terms of computer recognizability and likelihood of confusion among gestures...

Design Issues for Pen-Centric Interactive Maps

Recent advances in interactive pen-aware systems, pattern recognition technologies and human-computer interaction have provided new opportunities for pen-based communication between human users and intelligent computer systems. Using interactive maps, users can annotate pictorial or cartographic information by means of pen gestures and handwriting. Interactive maps may provide an efficient mean...
